Intramural Sports- The Pros

This is the eighth of ten posts in the RSO & Work series. This series will take a deep dive into all things that UNLV can offer; Registered Student Organization and working on campus. See just how involved you can get on campus!

You get to make friends (and a couple of enemies)

If you are a flying social butterfly like the late and great Victor Sanchez (that’s me), you will make friends on your team and from the other teams as well. You have to make jokes or at least try to. When the other team gets a first down or a touchdown just say you decline it as if the play was a penalty it will not only mess with the referee it will make the other team laugh as well. Or you can just talk to the other team and have a conversation.

You get to run around for about an hour

The games are an hour long and really there is no stoppage in between plays. Like flag football, for instance, it is just a bunch of people running like chickens with their head cut off but you still manage to have a lot of fun.

You have a lot of fun

If you’re in a sport that you like and are on a team with people you like then you can’t not have fun. If you do not know your teammates like I didn’t, just try to make friends with them and you are destined to have a great time.

Involved with the school

You get involved with UNLV. It is not like joining a club/ organization but you are still spending quality time on the campus. You can put that you are champs in intramural sports if it happens to roll that way. You may think this is a waste of time; getting away from all the technology and being active and a part of the community. . . It is not. Again, it's about getting the most out of college and having the most fun on campus that you can.

Works on teamwork

If you struggle to work on a team this will definitely help if you do a team event like basketball or football. These sports require a lot of teamwork and communication which not only helps in the work field but in real life as well.
